Who We Are
The Ministry of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation was established on July 23, 2007, to address the social needs of vulnerable populations in Rivers State. We are committed to providing social services to families, juveniles, children, orphans, the physically challenged, and indigent individuals. Our programs aim to improve the physical, social, emotional, and economic well-being of those we serve.

To achieve a society where everyone is capable of functioning and achieving practical opportunities in the face of any disadvantage.

To create a society that enables abilities using a family perspective, supporting policies that strengthen social partnerships and reinforcing values that promote harmony and success in homes and communities.
Our History
The Ministry of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation was formed in response to years of neglect in social services within Rivers State. Since its inception, the ministry has taken bold steps to address issues such as child welfare, family support, and the rehabilitation of vulnerable populations. By partnering with government bodies, NGOs, and local communities, we strive to ensure that no one is left behind.
Our Structure
The Ministry operates with six main departments and five institutions, each focused on delivering specialized services to ensure effective social welfare programs. Our Zonal Offices across thirteen local government areas help us reach communities throughout the state, ensuring that those in need have access to our services.
